Obtaining Colony Status
The first step in becoming a TKE chapter is to obtain colony status. When a group of men on a campus where there is no TKE chapter in existence want to become a colony, they need to receive permission from the Grand Council. This is achieved by sending two supporting documents to the
Offices of the Grand Chapter
- A resolution signed by a minimum of 20 members of your group indicating desire to become a colony of Tau Kappa Epsilon.
- A letter of support from the appropriate University official, granting permission for your group to associate with Tau Kappa Epsilon.
After both of these documents have been received, a Primary Inspection will be conducted by a representative of the Fraternity. The purpose is to:
- Verify the number of men in the group.
- Review the documents that have been sent to the Offices of the Grand Chapter.
- Answer questions.
Following the Primary Inspection, the Grand Council votes on whether or not to grant colony status. If colony status is granted, a document recognizing the group as an official TKE colony will be sent.
Once recognized as a colony, you are encouraged to identify yourselves as such and use TKE supplies in your day-to-day operations. The Fraternity's regional servicing team is available to assist your colony in becoming a chapter, a goal that needs to be accomplished within two years.
